David Rex, a Specialist Dietitian for Highland Council, has extensive clinical experience helping parents of children with ASD, ADHD and related conditions with dietary issues – and also provides education on healthy eating for children in mainstream schools.

In this presentation, 'Food, Mood, Anxiety and Children's Diets', he shares his expert opinion on children’s diets and the two-way links between food and mood, including practical tips on managing selective eating, which is particularly common in children with ASD.

Attendees will gain an understanding of:

  • Why children eat the way they do
  • What parents/carers can do to influence a selective eater (and what not to do!)
  • The impact that nutrients can have on children’s mood, behaviour and sleep
  • The role that exclusion diets and supplements can play in the mental wellbeing of vulnerable children
  • The role schools can play in nutrition education to promote healthier eating.
